Changing

Hey everyone,

It’s been a long time so I thought I’d keep you in the loop with what I’ve been up to.  The year has been full of changes for me.  I’ve been blessed to move into a new place and set up my own studio.  I’ve been tinkering in there non-stop, recording new songs that I may keep as demos or release soon.  I have a single in the works called “No Way Out” that I recorded at Creativ Music Centre with Mike Southworth.

There’s no way I could have predicted the surprises, joys, and disappointments of this year. We can’t ever know exactly what it’s going to look like.  When I look back at pictures of myself I always feel like I don’t really know that person in the past.  I was there, it was me, but I’ve changed so much.  It’s a feeling I often contemplate as I wonder who I’ll become in the future.  Music is just another expression of that.  My songs change as I listen to more music, play with different sounds, and discover new influences.

Going through an old hard drive I was able to come across some old tunes I recorded and was amazed at how different I sounded and what I was making up. I thought I’d post some below.

Enjoy the end of this beautiful and memorable summer!

“What You Need”  Recorded with Mike Jones – 2007

“For A Reason”  -self produced 2007

“Sylvia”  -words by Victor Ayala, music by Paolo Brian

Hi friends and music lovers!

I hope you are having a holiday season full of joy, love and warmth this year.

I’m pleased to announce three opportunities to catch us play in January.  Hope to see you there!

Paolo Brian & The Steamclocks   w/ This Is The Shoes

Join us for a great rocking time featuring our group “the Steamclocks” and my friends “this is The Shoes”.  It will be our last show with excellent guitarist and friend Aubrey Ellefson who is leaving for Montreal.  Therefore, we’re going to savor this one and have a blast.

Paolo Brian & The Steamclocks, Dan Jury and Ben Everyman

Doors at 8 pm.  Cover $5

We’ve been invited back by the folks at vanmusic.ca and CITR radio to play in the great sounding room at the British Ex.  For those of you who came last month, you know the vibes are good.  Free pool, cheap drinks, and an all around friendly atmosphere.

  • Saturday January 28, 2012 @ Our Town Cafe’   (245 East Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5T 1W4)

Paolo Brian, Kate MacColl, and Amanda Jacober

Early show.  Doors 7 pm.  By donation.

This will be a “Writers in the Round” Night.  I’ll be playing my songs solo on acoustic guitar and sharing the stage with the talented Kate MacColl (http://katemaccoll.com/) and Amanda Jacobe.  We will be alternating after a couple of songs each.   It sounds to me like a great night for song and storytelling.

Wishing you all the very best in the New Year,
Paolo

Rocking the Night Away at Indie Pop Series Vol. 7!

We had one of our best shows yet last night at the British Ex-Servicemen Association Club.  It was such a BLAST!  Illiteratty kicked off the night with a sublime set of songs with beautiful harmonies and arrangements.  Then we took the stage for over an hour! 15 originals with oldies and never before heard tunes.

Thanks to everyone who came out and hope to see you at our next show at Granville Island’s Backstage Lounge with the Shoes  on January 3rd!

Here are some of the captured memories:
